DG Insists, No Wearing Of Hijab In NYSC Camps

 

Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier-General, Johnson Olawumi, insisted on the ban, saying it was “for security reasons.” He said this after a group of Muslim youths under the aegis of Muslim Youths in Da’wah on Tuesday at the headquarters of the National Youth Service Corps in Abuja protested against the ban on the use of hijab by female Muslim corps members, especially during orientation camps.

President Buhari appoints Aliu Aziz as new NIMC DG

 

President Buhari yesterday approved the appointment of Engineer Aliyu Aziz Abubakar, as the new director general and Chief Executive Officer of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC). The new DG was a pioneer staff of NIMC and the director, Information Technology/ National Identity Database department of NIMC before he retired in 2014. He holds a B.Eng in Civil Engineering and M.Sc in Structural Engineering with Specialty in Computer Aided Design from the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria.

New Ooni Of Ife , Adeyeye Ogunwusi, to be officially crowned today

 

Prince Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife-elect, is expected to leave Ilofi, where he has been undergoing customary  installation rites in the past 21 days, today and head to the Ile Oodua, the Palace, where he will be formally crowned.
After his coronation, which will only be attended by traditional chiefs and few initiated, The Ooni will appear briefly in public.
His inauguration and elaborate ceremony will hold on Monday, December 7. Ogunwusi is the 51th Ooni of Ife.

Kogi state governor declares 3-day mourning period for Prince Audu

 

Kogi state governor, Idris Wada has declared a three day mourning period in the state for a former governor of the state and his main rival in the Saturday November 21st inconclusive governorship election in the state, Abubakar Audu who died yesterday November 22nd at the age of 68.

In a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Govt, Prof. Adegbemiro Jegede, Wada expressed his sadness over the sudden demise of Audu, describing the deceased as a great Kogite and a great Nigerian who contributed immensely to the socio-economic and political development of the State.

We Won't Slash Workers' Salary - Ekiti State Government

Ekiti State government has announced that it will not slash the minimum wage it is currently paying its workforce despite the financial challenges. Governor Ayo Fayose, who stated this, said to ensure the smooth payment of the salaries, the state government might de-centralise the state’s payment system.
Governor Fayose, who disclosed this at the weekend while speaking during a sensitisation tour of
Irepodun/Ifelodun and Ekiti South-West local government areas, said the current minimum wage
of N18,000 was “grossly inadequate,” adding that “any slash would not augur well for the workers and their dependants.”

How Abubakar Audu Passed Away

According to Sahara Reporters, Audu died around 5 am on Sunday, November 22. In what was considered a bizarre occurrence, his health had suddenly started to deteriorate on the night of Friday, November 20 when he started vomiting blood.
A family source said:  “He started vomiting blood after he returned from Lokoja,”

Ambrose Ali University Increases Freshers Fees by 200%

 

Students of the Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma, Edo State, are at loggerheads with the management of the school following the latter’s decision to increase school fees for the 2015/2016 Academic Session.
PREMIUM TIMES’ checks showed that the increases in the fees were between 170 per cent to 240 per cent.
Details of the schedule of fees showed that medicine had the highest increase from N47,000 to N160,000, a 240 per cent increase.

Governors Says They Can No Longer Pay N18,000 Minimum Wage

 

State governors under the aegis of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum have said that they can no longer pay the N18,000 minimum wage.

According to them, the minimum wage was imposed on them when oil sold for $126 as against the present price of $41 per barrel.

The Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, has escaped a suspected assassination attempt.

In a press statement by the spokesman of the Deputy Senate President, Mr Uche Anichukwu, the attempt occurred at about 10:00am local time on Tuesday between Apo Flyover and Dantata Construction Company’s yard, close to the Old Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Headquarters junction in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city.

Deadly Bomb Blast In Yola Last Night,Over 30 Killed

 

An explosion suspected to be from an improvised Explosive Device, IED, occurred last night at a Motor Park in Yola, Adamawa State.
More than 30 people were killed  when a bomb blast ripped through packed crowds in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, just days after President Muhammadu Buhari visited, declaring that Boko Haram was close to being defeated.

The explosion happened at about 8:20 p.m in the Jambutu area of the state capital, although it was not immediately clear whether it was caused by a suicide bomber or an improvised explosive device.
