He died at the age of 60.

General Murtala Ramat Muhammed, born November 8, 1938, was assassinated in Lagos in February 13th 1976. He was just 38 years old and had only been head of State for less than seven months.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested the immediate past Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency [NIMASA], Patrick Ziakede Akpobolokemi, two weeks after he was fired from his post.
A source in NIMASA told PREMIUM TIMES Mr. Akpobolokemi was arrested in Lagos Thursday morning and was detained at the Lagos office of the EFCC in the Ikoyi area of the city.
“He was taken in this morning around 10 a.m.,” the NIMASA insider said. “Some of our other officials have also been summoned while EFCC operatives have been conducting discreet investigation here. There is tension everywhere.

Explosion has rocked Gamboru market by Customs bridge in the heart of Maiduguri claiming many lives.
According to an eye witness, the explosion went off about 6.30 am Friday morning in a tricycle at the parking area of tricycle operators in the market.
The explosion may have killed dozens, leaving many injured.

The United States Trade and Development Agency has signed a $997,447 training grant with Dangote Oil Refining Company, The Punch reports.
According to the source, the grant will fund a multi-year programme to train over 100 employees of the company on refinery fundamentals.

Nigerian Army Rescued 59 Civilians From Boko Haram Terrorist Camp

As part of efforts to rid Nigeria of Boko Haram terrorists, troops of 21 Brigade and elements of Nigerian Army Engineers yesterday cleared a notorious terrorists camp at Chuogori and Shantumari, Borno State. During the offensive operations the fleeing terrorists left underground silos.

In addition, troops of 151 Task Force Battalion conducted operations on Kashingeri, Wale and Kushingari Boko Haram terrorists camps today. During the raids, quite a number of the terrorists were killed, a Landrover vehicle and a Tipper were recovered. The troops also rescued 59 civilians that were held captive by the terrorists and cleared the camps.

Nigerian Air Force Cutting Off Boko Haram’s Supply. Photos

The Nigerian Air Force has announced that its patrol and surveillanc activities have succeeded in blocking routes through which petroleum products and other materials are supplied to the extremist Boko Haram sect.

In a statement Wednesday, the Director Public Relations and Information of the Nigerian Air Force, Dele Alonge, said patrols along the Nigeria-Cameroon borders “have greatly strained the supply efforts of the BHT (Boko Haram terrorists)”.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation NNPC says the Port Harcourt and Warri refineries have commenced petroleum production after some in-house engineers conducted a nine-month rehabilitation on both facilities.

The oil corporation announced this in a statement released by its General Manager, Public Affairs Division, Mr Ohi Alegbe yesterday. The statement in part reads

Malam Nasir El-Rufai, the Governor of Kaduna State, has nominated 13 people as members of the State Executive Council.
In a letter to Aminu Shagali, the Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Mr. El-Rufai requested the legislators consider and approve his nominees. The governor also attached their portfolios in the interest of a transparent screening process.

Dr. Marianne Abimbola Silva to be laid to rest tomorrow

The funeral arrangements of the mother of veteran actress, Joke Silva, who died on July 19th at the age of 89 has been announced. The burial rites announcement signed by Joke Silva's sister Chief (Mrs)Taiwo Taiwo will kick off with a Christian Wake today, Wednesday 29th July from 6pm-8pm at the City Hall. She will be laid to rest on Thursday 30th July after a funeral service at the Cathedral Church of Christ, Lagos. May her beautiful soul rest in peace. Amen.

Senator Saraki and his wife have been the subject of intense pressure over documents which reveal they have been stealing and laundering money from Kwara State and various financial institutions for decades. These documents also reveal that Mrs. Saraki has played a significant role in assisting to launder these funds.

Mrs. Saraki was accompanied by an entourage of politicians and supporters as she arrived at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja. Included in her entourage was founder of the Anti-Corruption Network, now Senator, Dino Melaye who has been criticized in recent weeks for flaunting his wealth on social media.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, has died at the age of 85. Family sources say he died at about 5pm today after a brief illness. He was reportedly flown to UK in an air ambulance after he became unconscious following his illness. The late Oba is survived by wives and children. May his soul rest in peace Amen.

Former Governor of Akwa Ibom state, Akpabio Elected Senate Minority Leader

Godswill Akpabio, former governor of Akwa Ibom state and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senator (Akwa Ibom northwest), has been named the minority‎ leader of the senate. Akpabio was nominated by the south-south caucus of the PDP in the senate.

His nomination, however, is against the standing rules of the senate, which exempts first-term senators from holding principal positions. Last Wednesday, Gabriel Kolawole, justice of the federal high court, Abuja rejected an‎ application seeking to stop Bukola Saraki, senate president, from the naming Akpabio as minority leader of the senate.

Son of slain Libyan leader sentenced in absentia to die by firing squad along with other members of former regime.

Saif al-Islam, the most prominent son of Libya's slain leader, Muammar Gaddafi, has been sentenced to death by firing squad.
He was sentenced in absentia on Tuesday in Tripoli along with eight other senior members of the former regime, overthrown in 2011.
They were accused of war crimes and suppressing peaceful protests during the revolution, a state prosecutor said in early June.

The governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano defied the torrential rain across the state to inspect the havoc wrecked by flooding in some estates in Awka and Onitsha.

The governor who was presiding over the weekly Exco meeting had to call it off after report of collapse of buildings and flooding reached him.

Governor Obiano who was amongst early callers at Udoka Estate where a family was rescued after the collapse of their building, and at Ngozika Estate where a bungalow submerged, called on Ndi Anambra to stop building on storm water ways and blocking drainage.

When Lagos socialites, Joke and Azeez Ogedengbe got married a few months ago, it was a classy, "talk of the town wedding" which trended for days on social media because of the array of affluence displayed.

However, the bride is pregnant now and the couple recently had their baby shower. Just as expected, it was a high-class, well-planned and a well-attended gig. Tragedy struck on Monday at the Iganmu office of the Golden Penny Flour Mills Plc. in Lagos State after an explosion erupted from a boiler at the production section of the company and killed a worker, Folorunso Odunayo.

It was gathered that the deceased worked at the engine room of the firm. Hot water contained in the boiler was said to have spilled on the worker after it reportedly exploded. The worker died on the spot.

She says her daughter couldn’t believe she could rock it, but she killed it. What do you think?
