Women in Ikere Ekiti state took to the streets on Monday, June 8,
to protest against the governor of the state, Ayodele Fayose, and the
kingmakers for allegedly imposing Prince Adejimi Adu as the next
traditional ruler of Ikere Ekiti.
The protesting women, according to The Punch, said that they
would only approve of the emergence of Jimi Adu as the new Ogoga if he
was appointed by the Oracle and not by individual votes.
They also alleged that the emergence of Jimi Adu contravened the custom of the town because he is not from a royal family.

Carrying placards bearing various inscriptions, they warned
that money should not influence the imposition of a traditional ruler.
The women vowed never to give peace a chance if Jimi Adu is imposed on them as the next Ogoga. They also foretold that there would be terrible consequences should the governor refuse to heed their demands.

However, Kolapo Olusola, the deputy governor of the state, has
called for calm. He denied the allegations that Governor Fayose wanted
to impose his candidate on the people.
