Mohammed Bello and Goodluck Jonathan

Shortly after Tony Anenih resigned from the position speculation emerged that Jonathan would replace him. It was suggested that after the defeat in the presidential election, Jonathan would need to head the BoT “to remain relevant in post-2015 politics”.
However, on May 25, Monday, the PDP appointed Haliru Mohammed Bello as the new chairman.
According to Premium Times, Walid Jibril, the BoT secretary, said that President Jonathan had rejected the offer to head the Board. He added that now Bello would act for about two or three months, before the election is conducted to choose a substantive chairman.
It should be noted that a recent series of resignations have generated many negative reactions in political circles.
There were also fears that the emergence of Jonathan as BOT chairman would eventually make the PDP a regional party.
