Senator Iyorchia Ayu Confirm Receieved N345m From Dasuki
Iyorchia Ayu, a former senator of the federal republic, has explained his role in the arms deal scandal involving Sambo Dasuki, the former national security adviser.
Iyorchia said he collected the sum of N345m from the controversial arms deal funds, as consultation fee on difficult issues.
The senator who hails from Benue state said: “When I served on the National Security Council as Minister of Internal Affairs, I got educated that various aspects of security work could be pushed under different classifications.
“Any funds remitted to the company were for consultancies on security related and electoral matters.
“When Colonel Sambo Dasuki assumed duty in June 2012, he approached me to assist based on my background as a social scientist and my previous involvement in government.”
Speaking to Daily Trust, he said: “Understandably, I provided the requisite advice whenever consulted on difficult issues. It is also public knowledge that I have considerable knowledge of Nigerian politics and skills for competitive political organisation.
“This is why in 1999, General Olusegun Obasanjo appointed me as Director-General of his campaign”.
It would be recalled that the former Senate president who served in various ministerial positions during the Obasanjo administration, was labelled an aide to the alleged crimes committed by Dasuki.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is set to begin the trial of Col Dasuki, the anti-graft agency is also set to begin the trial of Shuaibu Salisu, the former director of finance in the office of the NSA, as well as six others for alleged misappropriation of N10 billion.
