Bayelsa Guber: Dickson, Sylva Take Election Battle To The Next Level

Dickson and Sylva tussle for victory in Southern Ijaw local government area, Bayelsa state
Following the inconclusive governorship election that was conducted in Bayelsa state, on Saturday, December 5, and 6, both the incumbent Governor Seriake Dickson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag bearer, Timipre Sylva, have taken the battle to Abuja.

On Tuesday, December 8, the two Guber candidates stormed Abuja, with different evidence on the cancelled election in Southern Ijaw local government area of the state amidst tension between their numerous supporters.
It was reported that most of the areas visited in the metropolis saw concerned Nigerians engulfed in intense discussion on the outcome of the election in Southern Ijaw. But a group known as the Sylva-Igiri Campaign Organisation in a bid to quell any possible breakdown of law and order has pleaded with supporters across the state to remain calm and shun any form of anxiety as the gubernatorial poll is yet to be concluded.
“We urge all APC members and supporters to remain calm and law abiding in this critical period. Our leaders, the APC gubernatorial candidate and former governor, Timipre Sylva, and Honourable Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, are working hard to resolve the issues around the so-called cancellation of the Southern Ijaw LGA election results.
“We are very confident that our victory will be restored in no distant time and our candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva declared as the duly elected governor of Bayelsa State having won the majority of votes and satisfied all requirements of the Electoral Law.
“As a party, we know that whatever happened at Southern Ijaw LGA could not have been worse than what took place in Sagbama and Ekeremor; yet, these results were not cancelled.

“Chief Timipre Sylva particularly acknowledges and appreciates the doggedness, courage and personal sacrifices made by our party leaders in the state, especially the director-general of the campaign, Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri, party chairman, Chief Tiwei Orunimighe and a host of others. Let us remain positive and prepare for the best Christmas gift ever,” the group said.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a statement issued by its national publicity secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, and other security agencies allegedly working for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
New Telegraph reports that the Governor Dickson, who spoke with journalists in Yenagoa, the state capital, on Monday, December 7, applauded the electoral commission for the cancellation of the election in Southern Ijaw, while The Punch reports that the candidate of the APC, Sylva, on Monday, December 7, revealed that he is not happy with the cancellation of election in Southern Ijaw local government area by the the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
