Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko has announced a N500, 000 cash each to players of the victorious Sunshine Queens FC and N600, 000 for the officials, as reward for winning the 2015 Women Federation Cup.
Mimiko announced the cash rewards at a special state dinner held in honour of the team at the Banquet Hall of the government house in Akure late Monday night, appreciating them for making the state proud by lifting the Federation Cup trophy. All officials and 30 players of the team benefited from the cash gifts at the colourful ceremony.
In his remarks, the governor, praised the team’s dedication, discipline and determination to have won the first national title for state since its creation under his administration.
He also assured that his government will sustain its support in terms of funding and motivation to the team to attain its full potentials.
“We have won a lot of merit awards in all sectors but this is the first time we are winning gold in football and on behalf of the state l want to say thank you.
“When we created the agency, we have the clear picture of what we want; to discover young talents from the grassroots and develop them as a reservoir for our national teams.
“I want to assure you that we appreciate you and we will use all our instrumentality to promote and develop your career”, he said.
Earlier in the welcome address, Ondo State Football Agency (ODSFA) Chairman, Akin Akinbobola thanked the governor for his supports at all times saying the government investment in football have started yielding benefits.
Sunshine Queens defeated Bayelsa Queens to win the 2015 Federation Cup title -their first ever major domestic trophy since 39 years ago.
