Beware of selfish Niger Delta leaders, ex-militants tell Buhari

EX-MilitantsSome ex-militants have called on the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, to be wary of selfish Niger Delta leaders, who are desperate for political recognition.
The ex-agitators, under the aegis of the Niger Delta Salvation Front, advised the president-elect to be conscious of the antics of such characters, whose actions, they warned, could have inimical effect on the fragile peace in the oil rich Niger Delta.
The NDSF’s comment was contained in a statement by its National Coordinator and Public Relations Officer, Victor Tamarapreye and Michael Akpodore respectively on Tuesday.
They said some indigenes of the region were rushing to the media to make all manner of utterances in a desperate pursuit of political recognition and vengeance against perceived enemies.
Tamarapreye and Akpodore said such elements from the Niger Delta were on a mission to plunge the region into avoidable crisis for their own enrichment and should be stopped.
The group added, “We are aware that some political agitators, whose desire is to ‎provoke needless crisis in the Niger Delta region, have commenced moves to misdirect the incoming administration of Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari in order to engage in acts inimical to the peace of the region.
“To this group of self-serving politicians, who have suddenly turned agitators on the pages of newspapers, the only means to crave relevance in the incoming administration is to vilify imaginary enemies as well as orchestrate disingenuous scenarios to create an atmosphere of crisis in the Niger Delta region.
“We have no doubt that Mr president-elect is abreast with all the laudable steps taken by the administrations of the late president, Umaru Yar’Adua and his successor, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, not only to stem the rising spate of militancy in the region, but also in enhancing the desirable economic stability as a result of the commendable measures taken to reduce unrest in the Niger Delta region.
“That the nation’s fiscal state as it stands today is as a result of these appreciable steps is to restate the obvious
“Nonetheless, we are constrained to remind General Buhari that ‎he owes the Niger Delta region, and indeed the entire country a duty to differentiate between self-serving political jobbers and genuine fighters for better socio-economic conditions. The two are not same just as their impacts are different.
“Therefore, we call on the incoming APC government to be circumspect in its dealing with dubious minds whose latest crave for relevance has merely depicted desperation that has the capacity to alter the relative peace in the Niger Delta”.

President Jonathan should not be scared of persecution - APC

Read the APC press statement below...
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said the incoming Buhari Administration will not persecute anyone, contrary to statements credited to President Goodluck Jonathan. In a statement issued in Abuja on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said, however, that those who have played poker with the nation’s destiny must be willing and eager to clear their conscience before man and God.
"That the President-elect is a man of integrity is not an issue for debate, and he has made it clear that he will not be bogged down by endless probes.

"However, the hands of the incoming government will not be tied by those who have chosen to play the victim and exhibit a persecution mentality. Whoever has any reason to be afraid must lay bare such reason before Nigerians,” the party said. It said that under the climate of change that Nigerians have ushered in with their votes, only the guilty needs to be afraid, and those with a guilty conscience, on account of their actions in the public sphere, must clear such so they can be at peace with themselves.

"The last time we checked, this does not fit the definition of persecution,” APC said. The party wondered why the President chose a public forum to express his fears when he could have done so privately during his meetings with the President-elect.

"Since the presidential election was won and lost, the President and the President-elect have met privately a number of times. Why didn’t President Jonathan express his apprehensions during these meetings? ”Even if the two have not met, the President could have reached out to the President-elect over any fears that he may be nursing, instead of engaging in an action that seems like he was being preemptive and seeking to curry public sympathy,” it said

APC insisted that the priority of the incoming government will be the welfare and security of the long-suffering people of Nigeria, and enjoined all citizens to support the Administration in charting a new path for the country – away from the rapaciousness and impunity of the past years.

Jimi Agbaje Will Never Rule Lagos- Oba Akiolu

The Oba of Lagos has explained why he said Agbaje will not rule Lagos and why Akinwunmi AMbode will remain his candidate. According to him, it is a bond chain, Tinubu planted the seed, fashola came to wet it, and Ambode will continue the good work. Here’s what Vanguard quoted him to have said;
“On May 14, 2014 when I first told all residents of Lagos that the next governor of the state will be Ambode, many didn’t believe me.

“I knew all the waters that have passed under the bridge,  including my own blood relations, who without consulting me went with others to say that Bola Tinubu, Fashola and Oba Akiolu have pocketed Lagos, saying that this time, they will not allow that. And I told them that Jimi (Agbaje) will never be the governor. I still maintain it. There is no going back,” he said.
