27 Storey London Tower Block On Fire, Many Feared Dead(photos).

Dozens are feared dead today after an inferno believed to have started when a fridge exploded ripped through a 27-storey west London tower block in just 15 minutes.

Residents were seen throwing themselves and their children out of windows to avoid being burned to death - others made ropes by tying sheets together as fire engulfed Grenfell Tower in White City at 1am today.

But a baby tossed from the 'ninth or 10th floor' of the building housing 600 people was caught by a member of the public and survived with only broken bones and bruises, a witness has said.

Aminu Suleiman Supports Northern Youths' Ultimatum To Igbos

 

A member of the House of Representatives from Kano State has supported the call by the Coalition of Northern Youths that all the Igbo should vacate northern Nigeria before October.

Rep Aminu Suleiman, who chairs the House Committee on Tertiary Education, said people from eastern part of the country could not hold Nigeria to ransom through their secession threats and other activities.

“I have read the statement of the Northern Youths Coalition. I may not completely say I share their vision 100 per cent; but they have found a supporter in me, because the people of eastern Nigeria have taken this country to ransom.

Some Kogi indigenes said they no longer want want Senator Dino Melaye as their representative. They begun the process of trying to recall the federal lawmaker representing Kogi West senatorial zone as they filled the register to effect their intention.

Yesterday, senator Dino Melaye and his convoy were greeted with insults as the lawmaker arrived Kabba, a town in Kogi state. The residents who gathered on the high way were heard shouting 'Dino, Ole' - a word used to describe a thief.

Delta central senator, Ovie Omo-Agege has emphatically stated that Urhobo people are not part of Biafra. Omo-Agege in a statement released on Wednesday stated that the Urhobo nation is part of Nigeria and not interested in seceding or being part of Biafra.

With the deluge of concerns being raised by my people, it has become necessary to state with absolute clarity as the Senator for the Urhobo Nation in the 8th Senate of our Federal Republic of Nigeria that the Urhobo Nation has never been, is not and does not wish to be part of Biafra.

Ex Nigerian Minister Babatunde Osotimehin is Dead

 

Babatunde Osotimehin, the Executive Director of the United Nations Populations Fund, UNFPA, is dead.

Born February 6, 1949, the 68-year-old was also a former Provost of the College of Medicine at the University of Ibadan.

 

He was appointed the fourth Executive Director of UNFPA in November 2010 and was reappointed in August 2014.

This is coming months after another ex minister, Babalola Borishade, passed away.

After 81 days in prsion, Kemi Olunloyo has regained her freedom, She had accused a court registrar of stalling her release from jail despite meeting her bail condition - Olunloyo who is known for making controversial statements had earlier said her father and Obasanjo used her younger brother Oyeleke for rituals in 1999 Emerging reports suggest that the controversial blogger, Kemi Olunloyo, has regained her freedom.
She has been held in a Port Harcourt prison custody for about 81 days. On the order of the Inspector General of Police, Kemi Olunloyo was jailed in a Port Harcourt prison, over her story which suggested that actress Iyabo Ojo and Pastor David Ibiyeomie were caught-up in an adultery mess.

Wife of the President, Aisha Buhari, this morning returned from the United Kingdom, where she went to visit her husband, who is on medical leave in the British capital.

According to a statement by Suleiman Haruna, her spokesperson, Mrs. Buhari, on arrival, conveyed the appreciation of President Muhammadu Buhari to Nigerians over their constant prayers and said he would soon return to the country.

Ambode Suspends NURTW Activities In Oshodi, Bans Collection Of Fees

 

Lagos State government on Monday announced the indefinite suspension of all union activities in seven branches of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Oshodi area of the state.
The government took the decision after crisis broke out in Oshodi following the murder of a prominent member of NURTW in the area, Alhaji Rasaq Balogun, also known as Hamburger.

The state Acting Commissioner of Transportation, Prince Anofiu Elegushi, who gave the directive at a press briefing held at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre in Alausa, Ikeja, said there would be no collection of tickets/fees from commercial buses while the suspension lasts.

Abductors of the CEO of Hit FM, Calabar in Cross River State have finally reached out to the family with their ransom demand. Kidnappers of the former Cross River State Commissioner of Youths and Sports, Mr. Patrick Ugbe, on Friday demanded N30m ransom for his release.

Ugbe, who is the Managing Director of the first Calabar private radio station, HIT FM, was kidnapped late Thursday by unmasked gunmen in a house along the Ekpo-Iso lane in the Ikot-Ansa area of Calabar metropolis.

The trailer with Lagos commercial number plate; SMK- 852- XL, was driving towards Itam Market, when the driver suddenly lost control, fell and spilling its contents on the road. The incident occurred at about 7:30 a.m on Itu Highway, near Itam Market in Itu Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
The driver and his conductor who succeeded in jumping out of the moving vehicle before the crash sustained major injuries.The accident was caused by brake failure.

Google has unveiled the final plans for their luxury £1billion UK headquarters, The 870,000 sq ft building planned for Kings Cross in London will be the first office the tech giant has designed for itself outside California.

It will have sleep pods, an Olympic sized swimming pool, wellness and fitness centre with a gym and a large indoor sports hall for games and a rooftop field with 200metre running track to ensure wellness for up to 7,000 staff.

The new office will also have a landscaped roof terrace with 'fields, gardens, meadows' and a large rooftop cafe providing free food and drink.

Reps Summon Adeosun Over N17 Billion ‘office Equipment’ Contract Scam

The House of Representatives Committee on Public Procurement on Thursday, summoned the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, over alleged payment of N17 billion for procurement of office equipment.

It also summoned the Auditor-General of the Federation (AGF), Ahmed Idris, and former Accountant-General of the Federation, Jonah Otunla, over the transaction.
The three top officials are to appear before the committee members on Tuesday.
Their invitation was sequel to their failure to appear at the public hearing on the allegation organised by the committee on Thursday.
