N19bn Paris Club Scam: EFCC Report Indicts Saraki, Aides, Ex-bank MD

 

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has submitted a report to President Muhammadu Buhari linking Senate President, Bukola Saraki, and some of his aides to the diversion of about N19bn from the N522bn Paris Club refund. The report also fingered Mr. Robert Mbonu of Melrose General Services Limited.
Mbonu is a former Managing Director of Societe Generale Bank of Nigeria, the commercial bank owned by the Saraki family which was later liquidated.

Ile-Ife Clash: Arrest Hausa Suspects In 48 Hours - OPC

A pan-Yoruba group, Oodua People’s Congress, has given the Federal Government and the Nigeria Police Force 48 hours to arrest the Fulani/Hausa persons involved in the crisis in Ile-Ife, Osun State, which resulted in the death of about 46 persons.

The OPC gave the warning in a statement by its founder, Dr. Fredrick Fasehun, on Thursday.
It said, “We hereby call on the Federal Government to intervene within the next 48 hours to ensure that justice is institutionalised and no side is provoked to defend justice according to its whims and caprices. Various communities have Abraham as their father. A word is enough for the wise.”

Keystone Bank Sold To A Nigerian Investors For 25 Billion Naira

 

Keystone Bank Limited, one of the banks acquired by Central Bank of Nigeria under the leadership of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi in 2009, has been sold off. The Asset Management Company of Nigeria, AMCON, in a statement yesterday, said the bank was sold to Sigma Golf Nigeria Limited and Riverbank Investment Resources Limited (the Sigma Golf – Riverbank consortium).


The statement signed by Jude Nwauzor, AMCON’s Head of Corporate Communications, said “it is pleased to announce Sigma Golf Nigeria Limited and Riverbank Investment Resources Limited (the Sigma Golf – Riverbank consortium) as the new investors in relation to the acquisition of the entire issued and fully paid up ordinary shares of Keystone Bank Limited.”

BREAKING: Judge withdraws from Fani-Kayode’s N4.9bn fraud case

Justice Muslim Hassan of the Federal High Court in Lagos has withdrawn himself from further presiding over the alleged N4.9bn fraud charge pressed against a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The judge ordered the return of the case file to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Ibrahim Auta, for re-assignment to another judge.

He directed Fani-Kayode and his co-defendants to go and await further directive from Justice Auta.

Two teachers gang rape six-year-old pupil in Bauchi

The Police in Bauchi have arrested two teachers of a Primary School in Dutsen Tanshi area of Bauchi, the Bauchi state capital for raping their six-year-old pupil.
The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi state Command, Garba Umar disclosed this while giving the scorecard of the command in stemming the tide of kidnapping, rape and armed robbery at a Press Conference in his office on Thursday, in Bauchi. He said the suspects, Sani Abubakar, 39, and Usman Hassan, 33, both of Dutsen Tanshi, were arrested on March 8th, 2017 at about 9:00 am for having carnal knowledge of the minor.

Ife Clash: Afenifere, OPC Kick Against One-sided Arrest

 

THE pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere and the Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC, have kicked against what they call one-sided arrest of some Ile Ife residents by security operatives over the communal clash in the area recently. In a statement, Afenifere’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr Yinka Odumakin said though it was concerned that lives were lost in the clash but faulted security operatives for carrying out a one-sided arrest of some innocent residents.

In a statement entitled: ‘Ife Crisis:The Hounding After and Yoruba Stand’, Afenifere said: “We are miffed that security operatives sectionally mobilized have moved to Ife after the incident to carry out one-sided mass arrests of Yoruba people who are mostly notables and could never have participated in any riot.

Ex-beauty queen escapes death as fire destroys her G-Wagen

 

Ex-beauty queen and Chief Executive Officer of Rikaoto by ME, Maryam Elisha, escaped death on Sunday after her Mercedes Benz G-Class, popularly called G-Wagen, burst into flames with her behind the wheels.
Elisha was driving on the Eko Bridge in Lagos when she was alerted to the fire, according to SDK, which uploaded a video of the incident, recorded by the ex-beauty queen.
SDK said Elisha confirmed the incident via phone, stressing that she tried to stop the car after being alerted but the brakes failed. “When the car eventually started to slow down, I put it on park and tried to open the door, which wouldn’t open until people came to my aid and helped me out before the fire spread everywhere,” she was quoted to have said.

BREAKING: EFCC intercepts N49m in sacks at Kaduna Airport

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Kaduna Zonal office, on Tuesday intercepted a sum of N49million in five large 150kg sacks.  According to the EFCC, the sacks were intercepted following a tip off.
“During a routine baggage screening, five sacks were sighted unattended and without tags containing fresh bulk items suspected to be money,” the anti-graft agency said in a statement. “Upon examination, the bags were found to contain fresh crispy naira notes of N200 denomination in 20 bundles totaling forty million naira and N50 denomination in 180 bundles totaling nine million naira with seal purportedly emanating from the Nigeria Security and Minting Plc as seen in the labeled sealed packs.”

FG Okays Closure Of Abuja Airport Midnight March 7

 

The Federal Government has approved the temporary closure of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, with effect from midnight of March 7 to pave way for rehabilitation of the runway for six weeks.
Managing Director of Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, Saleh Dunoma, who announced this, yesterday, said the airport would be re-opened for operations on April 19, 2017.
Dunoma stated further that due to the temporary closure, Kaduna Airport, which had been upgraded to international status, would serve as the alternate from March 8 till the completion of the rehabilitation.
He said: “Normal operations will re-commence at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on the 19th April, 2017.

Court dissolves Emeka Ike’s 17-year-old marriage

 

LAGOS Island Customary Court, yesterday, put an end to the long unsavoury marriage of Nollywood actor, Emeka Ike and his wife, Suzanne Emma, as it ordered the estranged lovers to go their separate ways.

The three-man panel presided over by Chief Awos Awosola, dissolved the 17 years old union, in a judgment in the suit by the estranged wife of the Nollywood actor, Emma. Other members of the panel are: Mrs. Opeyemi Olanrewaju and Mr Kehinde Olayinka. The court in judgment in the suit brought in 2015, by Emma against the Nollywood actor, said “From all evidence before the court, the marriage between the couple had broken down and it’s irreconcilable, consequently, the marriage is hereby dissolved.”

Theft Of Paris Club Refund: Saraki Claimed He Borrowed N5b From Dangote To Fund Buhari's Election
Saharareporters has obtained further details about the monumental scandal around billions of naira in Paris Club loan refunds that were brazenly stolen by state governors, Senate President Bukola Saraki, and Nigerian businessman Hassan Dambaba, who also holds the traditional title of Magaji Ngari Sokoto. Mr. Dambaba apparently embezzled as much as N2.5 billion from the Paris/London Club refunds.

Yesterday, Mr. Dambaba surrendered himself for interrogation by agents of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He was accompanied by a director of the Department of State Services (DSS). A source said Mr. Dambaba was acting as a front for Governor Abdulraziz Yariof Zamfara State who is also the chairman of the Governors' Forum.

There were strong indications yesterday that more than 1,500 of Arik Airline’s estimated 2,000 workforce may be retrenched this month as new management’s cost-saving measures to keep the airline alive.
Arik Air has about 2,000 workers spread across its local and foreign operations, while it operated a fleet of 28 aircraft at optimal capacity, which enabled it to generate enough revenue to meet its over N1 billion wage bill.

Lagos criminalises drilling boreholes without permit

A new Lagos State Environmental law is stipulating a prison term or fine for residents who drill boreholes without government authorisation, PREMIUM TIMES has learnt.
The legislation specifically criminalises sale or distribution of water by container, tanker, or any other method without a valid license issued by the Department of Water Resources.
The bill, passed by the state House of Assembly, is yet to be signed into law by Governor Akinwumi Ambode.

Governor Ambode Converts Mobil And Oando Filling Stations To Bus Terminal

 

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State yesterday said it would convert the popular Mobil and Oando filling stations at Maryland Bus Stop on Ikorodu road to bus terminal as part of strategies to ease transportation challenges in the state.

The governor, who also vowed to replace the yellow buses otherwise known as “Danfo” buses with Close Circuit Television Camera buses while the new air-conditioned buses will also have charging points for passengers who want to charge their phones and other devices.
