Northern Governors sign MOU with GE for 5 power plants 
Northern governors have signed a deal that will see construction of solar power plants in Borno, Kebbi, Nassarawa, Niger and Taraba states.The power plants will generate 500 megawatts of electricity together and help the states to improve economic and social activities of their people.

The Northern States Governors' Forum has announced the signing of a MoU with General Electric ‎International on Monday, November 28 for the construction of five solar plants that aim at generating 500 megawatts of electricity in some parts of Northern Nigeria.

Some officers of the Nigeria Police Force on Monday morning, November 28, took to the streets of Ondo to protest non-payment of their last Saturday governorship election allowance, The Punch reports.
According to the reports, the police officers went haywire in Ondo town, Ondo state, protesting non-payment of their allowance. It was gathered that the policemen protested in Fagun street in Ondo town ‎chanting various war songs as the development caused traffic logjam in the area.The protesters ‎were reportedly beating journalists who were trying to speak with them and residents who wanted to take photographs of the protest.

Obasanjo Blasts National Assembly:They are a Den of Corruption Occupied by Unarmed Robbers

Speaking during the First Akintola Williams annual lecture in Lagos on Wednesday, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, launched a fresh attack on the National Assembly, describing it as a “den of corruption”, which is occupied by “unarmed robbers”.  The ex-president who recommended that the ongoing President Buhari's anti-corruption was in the judiciary be extended to the legislative arm of government, said the corruption in Nigeria’s parliament “stinks to high heavens”.

Singapore executes Chijioke Stephen Obioha for drug crime

Singaporean government has executed Chijioke Stephen Obioha for drug trafficking in the early hours of Friday, November 18. Also executed was 31-year-old Malaysian, Devendran A/L Supramaniam after the country rejected a last-minute call for clemency. Obioha was found in possession of 2,604.56g of cannabis, surpassing the statutory amount of 500 grams that under Singapore law triggers the automatic presumption of trafficking in 2007.

President Muhammadu Buhari has again met with leaders of the Niger Delta on Thursday, November 3, to resolve the crises that has bedevilled the region for years and affected Nigeria’s oil output an revenue. The meeting was held at Presidential Villa in Aso Rock, Abuja.
The Buhari government is seriously faced with a major recession part of which is the result of fallen oil prices and the activities of militants in the region. The bombing of installations has also led to major power outages in many parts of the country.

The administrative secretary of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Ekiti state, Barrister Olujide Omoleke, has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen.
The commission’s public relation officer in the state, Mr Taiwo Gbadegesin, confirmed the incident and added that the case has been reported to the relevant security agencies. According to Mr Gbadegesin, Barrister Omoleke was kidnapped along the Akure-Ilesa road around 4.00 p.m on Thursday.
There is no information yet on his abductors but Mr Gbadegesin added that Mr Omoleke’s driver informed the commission that the kidnappers wore Police uniform.

National Judicial Council Suspends 7 Senior Judges Accused Of Corruption

 
THE National Judicial Council, NJC, has suspended seven senior judges arrested in October by the State Security Service for alleged corruption. The NJC had initially refused to suspend the judges despite public pressure, saying the allegations against them had not been substantiated.

It however said the judges had voluntarily stepped down from court sittings. The latest decision came after the council’s 7th meeting between Wednesday and Thursday. A communique issued at the end of the meeting, and signed by NJC’s Director of Information, Soji Oye, said the decision was taken to avoid allowing persons under investigation to to partake in presiding over judicial matters at the same time.

Seven judges were arrested on October 7.

Former Oceanic Bank Staff Sentenced To 195 Years In Jail For N21m Fraud (photo)

 
Justice Dije Abdu Northerner of the Kano state High Court today convicted and sentenced former Oceanic bank staff, Aliyu Suleiman, to 195 years imprisonment for allegedly stealing over N21, 000,000 (Twenty one Million Naira only) from Albasu Microfinance Bank.

As a former staff of Oceanic Bank, Aliyu was engaged and entrusted by the Albasu Community to take charge of their Microfinance Bank. While in charge, the he violated that trust and siphoned over N21, 000,000 (Twenty Million Naira) by forging signatures of the other signatories to the funds.

Kudirat: Justice opts out of appeal against al-Mustapha’s acquittal


A Justice of the Supreme Court, Centus Nweze, on Thursday, withdrew from the court’s panel constituted to hear the appeal filed by the Lagos State Government challenging the judgment of the Court of Appeal which acquitted Maj. Hamza al-Mustapha and Lateef Shofolahan of the murder of Kudirat Abiola.
Justice Nweze opted out of the panel on the grounds that he partly participated in the hearing of the case while it was before the Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal.
The judge, in fact, indicated that he at a time, presided over the hearing of the  case at the appeal court before another panel of the same court took over it.

EFCC Detains Brother Of Former Akwa Ibom State Governor Ibanga Akpabio


Ibanga Akpabio who is current Deputy Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party in Akwa Ibom state has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in connection with fraud.
Ibanga is the younger brother of Godswill Akpabio, a former Governor of Akwa Ibom state who is now a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. EFCC sources said the senior Akpabio is facing separate investigations over his mismanagement and embezzlement of Akwa Ibom state fund.

EFCC Grills Ex-Attorney General Of The Federation Aondoakaa Over $182m Halliburton Fraud

 
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Tuesday grilled a former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr. Michael Aondoakaa (SAN), for his alleged role in the $182m Halliburton scandal.
It was learnt that Aondoakaa, who served as AGF under the late President Umaru Yar’adua, arrived the office of the EFCC around 10am and was grilled for about eight hours.
As of 7pm, he was still in EFCC custody, an indication that he may spend the night at the commission.
A source at the anti-graft agency said, “Aondoakaa has been in our custody since morning and has been answering questions on his alleged role in the Halliburton scandal. More details will be revealed later.”

According to the APC candidate, the party controls 22 out of the 36 states of the federation and Ondo cannot afford to go with a party that is dead.
He noted that it will be beneficial for the people of the state, if APC is united, thereby calling on women to take up the task.

Woman denied $43 million jackpot, offered steak dinner instead

It was a selfie she thought was worth nearly $43 million.  Katrina Bookman hit the jackpot on a slot machine in late August at Resorts World Casino in Jamaica, Queens. She even took an excited self-portrait with the machine displaying her winnings: $42,949,672. It would have been the largest slot machine jackpot in US history.
"I can't even describe the feeling. It's like my whole body just got numb," Bookman told CNN affilate WABC.
But when she came back the next day to find out the exact size of her jackpot, a casino employee crushed her excitement.
"I said, 'So what did I win? He said, 'You didn't win nothing,'" she told WABC.
