I Can’t Continue To Fight For The Yorubas - OPC Leader

The embattled national coordinator of the Odua Peoples Congress (OPC) militia group, Gani Adams, on Monday said his effort in protecting the Yoruba nation is fruitless following verbal attacks on its personality. 
Mr. Gani disclosed that the group with thousands of registered members across the country has taken tactical approaches to issues related to insecurity in Nigerian society, especially in the Yoruba region of the country.

Wole Soyinka, Nobel laureate and Nigerian playwright, has said that the administration of the former president Goodluck Jonnathan left a “heavy baggage” and “burden”. He noted that it would take time for President Muhammadu Buhari to clear the rot he inherited from his predecessor.
The Nation reports that Soyinka expressed his opinion speaking at a public lecture titled “Politics, Culture and the New Africa” held in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Former Chief Security Officer to the late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, yesterday, said he would soon reveal how his boss and the acclaimed winner of June 12, 1993 presidential election, Chief Bashorun MKO Abiola, died. Disclosing that Abacha and Abiola’s deaths were from same source, Al-Mustapha said he would make the comprehensive revelation in his new book, Mustapha’s Memoirs, which, according to him, is still in the works. Al-Mustapha, who addressed journalists in Lagos yesterday, on a number of issues relating to his 15-year travails in detention, said Abiola and Abacha were very good friends before some fifth columnists caused disaffection between them. Kachikwu Bribed Representatives Of Niger Delta Avengers With $10m" - PDP

 
MINISTER of State for Petroleum Ibe Kachikwu has reportedly bribed members of the Niger Delta Avengers accused of blowing up pipeline installations across the country with a whooping sum of $10 million.
The allegation against the minister was made on Wednesday by Nigeria’s leading opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
According to the PDP in a statement via its official verified Twitter handle, Kachikwu released the money after a meeting at the Transcorp Hilton hotel, Abuja.

A Federal High Court in Lagos has nullified the national caretaker committee constituted by the Peoples Democratic Party during last Saturday’s convention.

The convention had appointed a former governor of Kaduna State, Ahmed Makarfi, as acting chairman, while a former Senator, Ben Obi, was appointed acting national secretary.

EFCC Obtains Another Warrant To Detain Fani Kayode For 21 Days

 
Former minister of aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode was Monday ordered to be remanded in Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC by a Lagos State Magistrate court sitting in Ikeja for 21 days.

The EFCC has brought an application before the court seeking to remand Fani Kayode in custody to enable it conduct further investigation into the alleged N1.5 bn fraud leveled against him pending when he will be brought before a regular court.

NLC ends nationwide strike called to resist new petrol price


Comrade Ayuba Wabba faction of the Nigeria Labour Congress has suspended the industrial action called to resist the new price of petroleum motor spirit. This was announced yesterday.
According to Channels TV, this came after an emergency meeting of its organs (the National Working Committee & the National Executive Committee) and the intervention of well-meaning Nigerians including APC national leader, Bola Tinubu. However NLC also announced plans to resume negotiations with Federal Government, with a view to resolving the issues that prompted the strike.

Court jails ex-NIMASA boss, Omatseye for five years

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has sentenced a former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration Safety Agency, Mr. Raymond Omatseye, to five years in prison for a N1.5bn contract scam.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had arraigned for engaging in contract splitting and bid rigging estimated at over N1.5bn while he was the DG of NIMASA.

Synagogue Engineers Begins ’Manslaughter Trial' On May 23

The scheduled trial of Engineers Oladele Ogundeji and Akinbela Fatiregun, who built the collapsed Synagogue Church Of All Nations’ six-storey building, has been further shifted to Monday, May 23.
Ogundeji and Fatiregun are being prosecuted by the Lagos State Government over the death of the 116 persons killed in the SCOAN building which collapsed on September 12, 2014.

She arrived in the company of her mother, the Borno State Governor, Shittima Kashim, the National Security Adviser, NSA and the presidential adviser to the prersident on Social Matters, Maryam Uwias. It was however a struggle to catch a glimpse of the escapee’s face as the presidential aides formed a human shield. Besides, the girl’s face was covered with wrapper to present her from public view.

Court reinstates sacked Kogi Speaker, other principal officers

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Thursday reversed the impeachment of Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Momoh Lawal.
The court also reinstated other principal officers of the House.
Justice Nnamdi Dimgba ruled that the process for the removal of the principal officers failed to conform with Sections 92(2) (c) and 96 of the 1999 Constitution.
Consequently, the position five lawmakers, Umar Imam, Friday Sani, Lawal Ahmed, Bello Abdullahi and John Abah, who supposedly replaced the impeached officers are to stand down.

An EgyptAir flight which disappeared from radar screens en route from Paris to Cairo early Thursday, crashed into the sea off the southern Greek island of Karpathos while in Egyptian airspace, a Greece aviation source told AFP that “At around 0029 GMT (3:29 am) when it was in Egyptian airspace, the plane disappeared from Greek radars… it crashed around 130 nautical miles off the island of Karpathos,”.

Fire guts 40 lock-up shops at Ladipo Auto Spare Parts Market

No fewer than 40 lock-up shops with different auto spare parts worth millions of naira were, on Wednesday morning, destroyed by early morning fire at the Ladipo Auto-Market in Mushin, Lagos State. The Director, Lagos State Fire Service, Mr Rasak Fadipe, who confirmed this said that the fire started at about 1 a.m. On April 20, more than 50 shops with assorted vehicle spare parts were burnt at the Osoro Section of the market. Fadipe said that when his office got information about the inferno, his fire fighters were unable to access the scene of fire due to a clash that happened in the area during the night.

One of the missing Chibok girls has been found in Nigeria, activists say – the first since they were taken by Boko Haram militants two years ago. The 276 girls were taken from their secondary school in north-east Nigeria by the Islamist fighters in April 2014. Activists confirmed to the BBC that Amina Ali was found by a vigilante group on Tuesday in the Sambisa Forest, close to the border with Cameroon. She was reportedly identified by a civilian fighter who recognised her.

FG Proposes N120 Per Litre, Labour Leaders Kick


Indications have emerged why the talks between the Nigerian government and the leaders of organised labour hit the rocks Monday night.
The federal government had announced the deregulation of the petroleum downstream, a development that has jerked up the price of Premium Motor Spirit, otherwise known as fuel from N86 to N145 per litre.
Following the development, labour leaders threatened to embark on nationwide strike if the price was not reversed within 96 hours.

Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, yesterday advised the Federal Government against resuscitating the defunct Nigerian National Shipping Line, NNSL. Obasanjo, who gave the advice in his address as Chairman of a two-day stakeholders’ conference on the maritime industry in Lagos, blamed the demise of NNSL on the lack of professionalism and high level corruption at the time.
He said: “NNSL had been liquidated; they tried Nigeria Unity Line, it collapsed. 19 brand new ships were specially built for Nigeria and we did not take delivery of some of them until I left office in 1979.
