As part of activities to mark Democracy Day in Kogi State, the Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello demonstrated his usual act of generosity to the good people of the state, by commissioning and distributing his face-branded bags of rice, alongside N1,000, to Kogi residents.

The excited beneficiaries trooped out in large numbers to appreciate the kind gesture of Governor Bello for making them feel the impact of Democracy Day celebration for the very first time.

Man Who Tried To Kidnap A Child And Grandma Arrested In Gbagada

On Tuesday afternoon around the Gbagada axis of Lagos State, this kidnapper was caught when he tried to kidnapped a baby and the baby's Grandma. According to an eye witness who spoke to us, 'the mother of the little baby just parked, left the Granny and baby in the car so she could use a nearby ATM.
She left the car engine on and before she returned the kidnapper entered the car and was drove off'.

He continued to tell us that, 'thank God for this soldier guy that just chased him down with a motorbike and it was really rough. The car somersaulted and the baby and grandma were both rescued with little injuries'.
The kidnapper has since been handed over to the Police.

EFCC Seizes George Turnah's Houses And Bank Accounts

The Economic And Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has taken over some bank accounts and properties traced to a former Special Adviser to Dan Abia, erstwhile managing director of Niger Delta Commission, NDDC, Mr. George Turnah .

The confiscation was done on Thursday sequel to an interim forfeiture order  granted the Commission by a Federal High Court sitting in  Port Harcourt, Rivers State. One of the properties covered by the forfeiture order and which had been attached by the EFCC is a massive complete building known as “KOLO VILLA” in Kolo Town, Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. Other properties will soon be attached.

KAI Official Stoned To Death By Hawkers In Lagos

 

KAI official (Kick Against Indiscipline ), Moshood Ayeni, lost his life after angry hawkers who reacted to the arrest of their mates Jeremiah Nnana and Orich Nwofokoh who displayed their wares in traffic, stoned the deceased and his team at Iyana-Oworo area of Lagos.

In the press statement released by the agency’s spokesperson, Alabi Rahmat, it was gathered that the mob pelted the KAI official vehicle with stones, one of which hit the deceased and fell him from the moving vehicle.

“The enforcement officials were returning from an assignment when they saw the traders and tried to do their jobs. They saw the traders hawking in traffic by Car Wash and arrested Jeremiah Nnana and Orich Nwofokoh both selling sausage and phone accessories.

Ambode Cancels N844b Lagos 4th Mainland Bridge, Terminates concessionaire

 

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has terminated a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a consortium of firms to build the 4th Mainland Bridge at the cost of N844 billion.
The MoU for the 36 km bridge, which two past administrations had promised to do, was signed on 25 May, 2016.

The project was to be financed by Africa Finance Corporation, Access Bank, and other private investors who have already signified intention to be part of the construction, while Visible Assets Limited would be the coordinating firm.

Moreover, Sheriff had asked the apex court to discountenance Makarfi’s appeal based on his (Sheriff) court affirmation as the party’s chairman. He said it was illegal for Makarfi to institute the legal suit since it was not recognised by law.

The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2 command, Adamu Ibrahim, MNI, has directed that police officers to stop arresting people for using vehicles with tinted glass.

Zonal Police P.R.O, SP Dolapo Badmus relayed this message while speaking with LIB, saying that no police officer has the right to arrest anyone for using tinted glasses and they have been asked to stop demanding for renewal of tinted permit. She however advised the public to get their tinted glass permit which is non renewable.

Nigerian Embassy In Washington Shutdown Over Nonpayment Of 5 Months Salaries

Workers at the Nigerian Embassy in Washington have been on a sit-in, paralysing activities at the mission in the United States. The workers said they have not been paid salaries for the past five months, forcing them to embark on the strike.

Although some departments of the embassy are said to still be functional, they threatened to report the embassy to the U.S. Labour Department.

In one fell swoop, South African telecoms firm, MTN, on Friday sacked 280 of its employees in Nigeria, in a major job cut that affected about 15% of the company’s entire Nigerian workforce.
Those affected by the move include some 200 permanent employees and about 80 contract staff across various cadres, ranging from new graduates to senior managers, multiple sources told PREMIUM TIMES.
Many of those sacked spent up to 15 years with the company having joined MTN as it opened its business in Nigeria in 2001.

Three-Storey Building Collapses In Rivers State (Photos)

 

A three-storey building has collapsed in Alakahia community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State. The building, located along the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) road in Alakahia, collapsed about 6 a.m, while neighbours were still asleep.

About three workers live at the construction site, but it could not be ascertained at the time of the incident if they were in the building or not.
