Ondo Election: I’ll beat Ibrahim, Jegede combined, says Akeredolu

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State, Chief Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), has boasted that if the two factional candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, Jimoh Ibrahim and Eyitayo Jegede, combine forces and contest against him, he would emerge victorious at the poll.
Akeredolu said this on Monday when the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress Governorship Campaign in Ondo State, Mr. Solomon Lalong, led him to a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari.

Abati, Fani-Kayode, Obanikoro receive priestly visit in EFCC detention

The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Mathew Kukah, on Monday visited the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in Abuja.
According to a statement by the commission’s spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, Mr. Kukah met with Femi Fani-Kayode, Musiliu Obanikoro, and a former presidential spokesperson, Reuben Abati, among others.
He said that Mr. Kukah was reportedly conducted round the EFCC’s detention facilities by the acting chairman of the commission, Ibrahim Magu.
Mr. Uwujaren said Mr. Kukah expressed delight that the detainees were in high spirits despite the discomfort of temporary restriction.

Mother and two children found dead inside freezer in Denmark

Danish police said Monday they found the bodies of a slain Syrian refugee and her two young daughters in a freezer in their apartment, as they launched a manhunt for the girls’ father. The bodies of the 27-year-old mother and her seven and nine-year-old daughters were found inside a freezer in their apartment in the southern Danish town of Aabenraa after a concerned relative had not heard from them for days.

APC wants Jonathan quizzed for corruption

Lagos chapter of the All Progressives Congress said on Sunday said it was time former President Goodluck Jonathan was invited for questioning over the alleged looting of the nation’s treasury under his administration.

 The APC chapter said it had now become indefensible to pretend that Jonathan did not know anything about the alleged corrupt practices of some of the public office-holders who served under him.

The party was reacting to Jonathan’s recent statement that he did not believe that his National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.), who is currently facing trial, stole the $2.1bn budgeted for the purchase of arms.

BREAKING: EFCC re-arraigns Orji Kalu in Lagos

A former Governor of Abia State, Orji Kalu, is currently in the dock before a Federal High Court in Lagos answering alleged corruption charges.  Kalu and others had been initially arraigned in 2007 before Justice Adamu Bello of the Federal High Court, Abuja (now retired). They were arraigned in an amended 34-count charge over an alleged diversion of about N3.2bn from the Abia State Government’s treasury during Kalu’s tenure as governor.

The troops pursued them but were only able to apprehend Kadiri Umate, 35 years, while others fled into the bush.

Pres. Buhari, APC govs in closed-door meeting

President Buhari is currently in a closed door meeting with APC governors. The meeting is being held at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja. Amongst the governors in attendance are the chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Rochas Okorocha of Imo State, governors of Adamawa, Plateau, Kogi, Kaduna, Edo, Ogun, Kano, Kebbi and Benue States.

Others are to join the meeting later. The reason for the meeting is yet to be disclosed.

A member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in Kaduna State, Lawal Auwal Kontagora, has been murdered by unidentified assailants. It was gathered that the deceased graduated from one of the universities in Malaysia four months ago to participate in the one-year mandatory service.
Findings revealed that the incident occurred when Kontagora and his friend went to visit a female friend.

While they were inside a Peugeot 407 car with the lady, the hoodlums were said to have moved near the car and asked them to open the door which they did.

Obanikoro Offers To Refund N785m Slush Fund

 

Embattled former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro may soon be let out of custody by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following indications that he has agreed to make refunds of the money he allegedly collected from the Office of National Security Adviser (ONSA).
The anti-graft agency accused the ex-minister of collecting N785 million from ONSA while in office.
His friends and associates are understood to be rallying around him to raise the funds as a first step to secure his bail.
Obanikoro is understood to be targeting  N100 million as first installment  of the refund.
From ONSA, about N4.685 billon was transferred to Sylva McNamara Limited, a company allegedly linked to the ex-Minister.

Sarah Omakwu, senior pastor, Family Worship Centre (FWC), Wuye, Abuja, on Sunday delivered a scathing message to those donating looted money to churches, saying stolen money should not be brought to her church as offering. According to transcripts of the sermon, provided Seun Akioye, a congregant, Omakwu said she was not castigating sinners, but she preferred to miss their money and have them make heaven. She also warned older men against sleeping with younger girls because they are rich enough to tempt the girls. She told such men that their daughters would experience the same.

300-level UNILORIN student confesses to cheating in WASSCE, applies for withdrawal from school

A 300-Level Sociology student, Jephtaph Abolarin had written to the Authorities of the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, confessing to cheating during his West African Senior School Certificate Examination and seeking his withdrawal from the school.
However, the school authorities on Sunday said that they had accepted the voluntary withdrawal of the student from the institution.
Abolarin, who claimed he had become a ‘born again’ Christian, said going on with his university education, using an unmerited certificate was unjust and immoral, hence the need to leave the institution.

The Lagos State Police Command has uncovered a factory inside the Police College in Ikeja, where police uniforms and other accessories, are illegally produced and sold.
Police arrested four persons, all women, among them two nursing mothers. Several police uniforms with different ranks, badges, belts, boots cardigans, caps and force numbers were recovered from the suspects.
Vanguard gathered that investigation was still on to ascertain whether the force numbers were authentic.

President Buhari Leaves For Germany On Wednesday

 

President Muhammad Buhari will leave for Germany on Wednesday, October 12th. According to sources close to the Presidential Villa, said he will return to Nigeria on Saturday. While the Presidency is yet to announce the event, it was also learnt that barring a last-minute change of plans, he will jet out of Abuja late on Wednesday, to arrive in Berlin in the early hours of Thursday.
He is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings scheduled for Thursday and Friday, and pay a visit to a local hospital.

Falana Wants EFCC To Probe Loans Given By Ex-CBN Governors

 

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN, has said he would apply for an order of Mandamus to force the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to investigate the deposit and loans granted by former governors of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to some banks in the country. Falana, who stated this at a dinner organised by the executives of Senior Staff Club of University of Ibadan, who celebrated one of their members recently appointed by the Federal Government, said the loan ran into trillions of naira from 2006 to 2011.
