Senator Oluremi Tinubu asks Senate, APC to sanction Melaye

The Senator representing Lagos West Senatorial District, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Tuesday, formally reported Senator Dino Melaye to the All Progressives Congress and the Senate, alleging that Melaye would have beaten her up but for the timely intervention of her colleagues.

Tinubu, the wife of the national leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, in her separate letters, said the Kogi West Senatorial District senator actually issued threats of rape and assault against her and boasted that he would face no consequence even if he fulfilled the threats.

I remain loyal to APC, says Bukola Saraki

Senate President, Bukola Saraki on Monday restated his loyalty to the governing All Progressives Congress (APC). Saraki also reiterated his belief that the President Buhari's government will redeem its electoral promises made during the 2015 general elections.

The Senate President spoke at the 10th Abuja Housing Show where top government officials and prominent stakeholders in the housing sector brainstormed on the theme: “Expanding Access To Affordable Housing In Africa.”

President Buhari Orders IGP To Re-open Bola Ige, Dokubo’s Cases

President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, directed the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to reopen investigation into the unresolved murder of former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Bola Ige, and ex-Deputy National Chairman, South-South, of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Aminosari Dokubo, and fish out the perpetrators.

The killing of the two personalities caused national outrage, with Nigerians calling on the government of former President Olusegun Obasanjo to fish out the killers who have still not been found.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, visited Borno State to condole with the family and the people of Borno over the death of Alh. (Dr). Shettima Ali Monguno, Nigeria's first Minister of Petroleum, who died on July 8 at the age of 95.

After receiving the former President and his entourage at the Maiduguri International Airport, the state governor, Kashim Shettima led them to the Shehu's palace and then to deceased's family resident where he condoled with them. Obasanjo described the deceased who was his former colleague as epitome of gentility.

EFCC Grills Pilot Who Flew N1.299b Cash For Fayose, Obanikoro

A pilot has told the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFFC) how he flew a former Minister of State for Defence, Mr. Musiliu Obanikoro, with N1.299 billion cash for Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose.

Capt. Ahmed Bashir Borodo said the cash was wrapped with green military tarpaulin bags before it was loaded onto the chartered aircraft registered HS125-800 5N-BMT, owned by  Gyro Air Limited.
He said the bags were so heavy that only three people could carry one at a time.

New IG Calls Out Arase, Says Return The 24 Vehicles You Took

The acting Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, Yesterday during an interview with journalists has said his predecessor, Solomon Arase,  went away with 24 police vehicles while the seven Deputy Inspectors-General of Police, who retired alongside him, also carted away between seven and eight cars each.

Idris stated that he had written Arase to return the cars, which included two official bullet-proof BMW 7 series cars, adding that the retired police chief and his DIGs had yet to return the vehicles.

Federal High Court Dismisses Omisore Bail Application

 

The Federal High Court in Abuja this morning dismissed Sen. Iyiola Omisore's bail application for lack of competence. The former Deputy Governor in Osun State, Omisore is being prosecuted by the EFCC over N1.3billion he allegedly got from the office of the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki.

Call to bar is a legal term of art in most common law jurisdictions where an individual is sworn or entered into a law society or state bar or court and thereafter licensed to practise law in that jurisdiction. In Nigeria, the ceremony is organised by the Nigerian Law School.

Gunmen suspected to be militants from Niger Delta have reportedly been attacking some people in Ikorodu, Lagos State. A LIB reader sent in these photos and narrated how a man barely escaped their grasp on Tuesday, after they opened fire on his car while he was heading home at night.

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye on Tuesday morning visited the family of the murdered Abuja preacher, Mrs Eunice Elisha. She was butchered to death by unidentified persons around Gbazango-West area of Kubwa, while evangelizing last Saturday morning. Adeboye visited the husband of the deceased, Pastor Olawale Elisha and her family around 6 a.m this morning to console them.

EFCC Discovers Sensitive Document in Omisore's home

 

Highly sensitive documents have been discovered in the house of former Osun state deputy governor, Senator Iyiola Omisore by the EFCC. Some informants in the anti-graft agency stated that a document revealed how N60billion was voted for extraneous overhead spending for some members of both arms of the National Assembly in the Sixth Assembly Senator Omisore was the chairman of the Senate Appropriation Committee between 2007 and 2011. The EFCC is carrying out an investigation into the contents of the document in order to find out the legislators who got the said money.

Dallas Sniper's Dead Body Photos Leaked Online?

 

Leaked photos appearing to show the dead body of Dallas sniper Micah Johnson after he was blown up by a 'bomb robot' appear genuine, a former US Army explosives expert has said.

The Dallas Police Department has refused to say whether the gruesome photos anonymously posted online Sunday evening are genuine images of the slain cop killer.

But, a former senior explosive ordnance disposal technician with the US Army, said that the blast scene depicted in the photos and the state of the corpse were consistent with the remote controlled bomb tactic used to kill Johnson. See the photos after the cut.

RIP: Veteran Nollywood Actress Bukky Ajayi Dies at 82

According to reports on The Punch, a source disclosed that she died an hour ago but refused to give details. On Monday, February 2, Bukky Ajayi clocked 82-years and was hosted to a small celebration by her children at her home, in Lagos.

Mama Bukky Ajayi as she is fondly referred to studied drama at the Institute of Drama, London. She later worked a while in London before coming to Nigeria where she started a broadcasting career as an announcer, presenter and newscaster at Nigerian Television Authority. Ajayi was a part of the now rested TV series Village Headmaster.

Federal Government Extends Public Holidays For Eid-el Fitr Celebration

 

The Federal Government of Nigeria has added Thursday 7th July, 2016 as Public Holiday for the celebration of Eid-el fitr, having declared Tuesday 5th and Wednesday 6th July, 2016 as public holidays earlier.
The declaration was made on behalf of the Federal Government by the Minister of Interior Abdulrahman Dambazau in a statement on Tuesday signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Bassey Okon Akpanyung.
This declaration followed the directive by the President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto, to the effect that the Ramadan fast continues on Tuesday as a result of the non-sighting of the moon.

 Argentina and Barcelona football superstar Lionel Messi has been sentenced to 21 months in prison for tax fraud, the BBC reports Spanish media as saying.
The player’s father, Jorge Messi, was also given a jail term for defrauding Spain of $4.5m between 2007 and 2009.
The two were found guilty of three counts of tax fraud in Wednesday’s ruling by the court of Barcelona.
The two also face millions of shillings in fine for using tax havens in Belize and Uruguay to conceal earnings from image rights.

Oscar Pistorius sentenced to 6 years in prison

 

Oscar Pistorius has just been sentenced to 6 years in prison for the murder of Reeva Steenkamp. He faced up to 15 years in prison but the judge said there were “substantial and compelling reasons” to deviate from the 15-year minimum sentence, citing as one factor, the continuing misperception that Pistorius had intended to kill his girlfriend. She said a long-term imprisonment will not serve justice as Oscar is already a broken man...a fallen hero.

The Steenkamp family looked stunned that Oscar only received 6 years but said nothing. And Oscar can be paroled for good behaviour after serving a 3rd of his sentence, which is just 2 years.

Transformer Explosion in Abuja , Kills Pregnant Woman, Five Others

 

There was pandemonium at the Tundunwada area of Lugbe, a satellite town in the Federal Capital Territory when a transformer exploded and electrocuted six persons, including a pregnant woman who recently moved into her house in the area.

About four persons were also said to have been injured during the incident, including a six-year-old boy, Destiny Okolo, who suffered injuries on his face and left ear.

CBN dissolves Skye Bank board, Appoints Abero as new MD

 

Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Monday sacked top executives of Skye Bank Plc over failure to meet required capital adequacy ratio, poor liquidity ratio and high level of non-performing loans.
The bank’s Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Timothy Oguntayo, and the chairman resigned before the CBN announcement.
Mr. Tokunbo Abero has been appointed the new Group Managing Director/ CEO, while M.K Ahmad is the new Chairman of the bank.
The Governor of CBN, Godwin Emefiele, assured customers that the bank is not in distress.

Court grants Alison-Madueke’s associate, Omokore; Andrew Yakubu, conditional bail

 

A Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja, has granted bail to the chairman of Atlantic Energy Drilling Concept; a former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Andrew Yakubu, and four others.
Mr. Omokore, an ally of former Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, and Mr. Yakubu were charged along with a co-owner of Atlantic Energy, Kola Aluko; Victor Briggs; Abiye Memnere; David Mbanefo; Atlantic Energy Brass Development Limited and Atlantic Energy Drilling Concepts Limited.
Justice Binta Murtala-Nyako, who gave the ruling, ordered the defendants to provide bail bonds of N50 million each, with one surety in like sum.

Court grants Fani-Kayode, Nenadi Usman conditional bail

A Federal High Court in Lagos has granted a N250 million bail to former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, who is facing corruption trial before Justice Muslim Hassan.
The judge also granted bail in the same sum to Mr. Fani-Kayode’s co-defendants, Nenadi Usman, former Finance Minister; and Danjuma Yusuf.

EFCC arraigns Jide Omokore, former NNPC GMD, Yakubu, others

 

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Monday arraigned Jide Omokore, the chairman of Atlantic Energy Drilling Concept Limited, and Andrew Yakubu, a former group managing director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, on money laundering charges.
A statement by the EFCC said Mr. Omokore and Mr. Yakubu were charged before Binta Murtala-Nyako at the Federal High Court Abuja on a four-count of money laundering.
